Paloma Gabriela Kalisch
Born February 3, 1998
Paloma is a Native New Yorker. When Paloma was in Pre-K
all the children in her class were asked to sign in every day
....and every day, Paloma would sign in as a different
character...like Winnie the Pooh and even Christopher Robin.
Paloma had a rich imagination and chose to live "there" most
of the time. As Paloma grew, her desire to often live in a
fantasy world and her difficulty connecting with other children
continued and in 2007, at the age of 9, Paloma was diagnosed
as high functioning Aspergers, which is an Autistic Spectrum
Disorder.
Through her art, Paloma has gained a sense of self
confidence. In 2008 Paloma participated in her first group exhibition, “The Artistic Spectrum”, at the JCC in NYC, for
young artists between the ages of 10- 21.
In February of 2009 Paloma was chosen by the New York State Alliance for Arts Education as one of 12 in the state -- to
participate in a six week art mentoring program uniquely
designed for children with special needs called 'Side by Side',
which culminated with a group exhibition in April of 2009.
Paloma lives with her mom and dad in Manhattan and enjoys
taking art classes at the Art Students League, and loves dogs. She is most passionate about drawing characters and
cartoons, as well as writing adventure and problem solving books for her friends. She enjoys photography as well as
making videos. She also enjoys playing videos on You tube,
muting them, and then simultaneously playing music on the CD player, in order to sync the movements to the music.
Paloma wishes she could live on a block where the buildings
are decorated with grafitti. Her second passion is dogs. She is a dog sitter, and her company is The Petsitter’s Club.
Paloma's artworks are inspirational and amusing. Her skills as a cartoonist and story writer are amazing!
Stay tuned for more of her drawings (soon to be posted).
