This special talent provides an outlet for his energy and also serves as a coping mechanism.   Additionally, it allows him to assist in providing for his own future.  Erik is self-employed and although he doesn’t comprehend the concept of employment, he is nevertheless dedicated and committed to his work.  He demonstrates a passion for his art and strives for perfection in each piece he creates.   While Erik can reproduce any piece he makes any number of times,  no two pieces will ever be precisely identical.  Each piece will always be an “original”.

Erik works daily in his wood shop; turning out extraordinary pieces with intricate detail that bring joy to many people.   Although he may never meet or know some of the individuals who purchase his art, there have been those who have sought him out and have come great distances simply to watch him work.  His work is available through his web site, www.erikoriginals.com  as well as in several retail outlets.  Erik is licensed to work with several sports logos and was recently commissioned by Kansas State University to create a piece that includes their Power Cat Mascot along with Football Coach Bill Snyder’s signature.  He also accepted a request from the Salvation Army to do a custom order, a reproduction of their logo in wood.

Erik was featured in the Fall 2008 Issue of Scroll Saw Magazine, and most recently in the Spring and Summer 2009 Issues of Autism Spectrum Quarterly. Over the past years, he has also been featured in numerous newspaper articles and his work was shown at the Autism One Arts Festival, held in Chicago in May 2009.

ERIK WARREN

Erik Warren was born in 1971 and by the age of two, his parents strongly suspected their son might be a part of the autism spectrum.   Erik was officially diagnosed at the age of three and is, for the most part, non verbal.  However, he has learned and developed numerous creative ways to communicate his wants and needs in spite of his limited vocabulary. With guidance, he has also found a true gift in his talent with the scroll saw.
